Marvel Studios made a significant contribution to the revival of movie theaters in September 2021 by releasing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the second movie in the MCU's Phase 4. This origin story surprised the world by becoming the highest-grossing movie ever over Labor Day Weekend, a remarkable achievement that has led to the announcement of plans for Shang-Chi 2.

Simu Liu's portrayal of the titular hero has paved the way for a bright future in the MCU. He has hinted that his character will play a crucial role in the direction of Phase 5 and Phase 6. While it is likely that Shang-Chi will team up with Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, he will also embark on another solo adventure in the near future.

Although Marvel Studios confirmed the development of Shang-Chi 2 in December 2021, the production and release details remain unclear. While no official release date has been announced, rumors suggest that the movie may still be a while away from hitting theaters.

    Teases Shang-Chi 2's Release Date

According to a rumor on the r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers Reddit page, Marvel Studios is reportedly considering a February 14, 2025 release date for the sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This date coincides with the "Untitled Marvel" movie previously set on Disney's theatrical schedule.

Charles Murphy from Murphy's Multiverse also supported the rumor and commented that he had talked about this possibility for a while. Given the short time gap between the Shang-Chi sequel and the next Avengers film, there have been questions about whether director Destin Daniel Cretton would be able to direct both.

However, Murphy confirmed that Cretton would indeed be directing Shang-Chi 2, and his role as a producer for the upcoming Wonder Man film doesn't necessarily mean he will be occupied with it during Shang-Chi 2's production.

    Shang-Chi 2's Rumored Release Date

It's important to keep in mind that Marvel Studios frequently changes release dates for its films, even without the impact of the pandemic. Recently, the studio moved the release date for one of its upcoming films, possibly to accommodate the long-awaited debut of Deadpool 3. With the potential release of Shang-Chi 2 being two and a half years away, it's uncertain whether it will indeed be released on February 14, 2025, although the success of the first Shang-Chi movie suggests it could do well with a February release.

Reports suggest that filming for the sequel will take place in 2023, leaving enough time for post-production before the movie's release. However, it's uncertain whether director Destin Daniel Cretton will be available to direct the sequel, as he's currently set to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which releases just three months after the potential release date for Shang-Chi 2. It's possible that someone else could take over the directorial duties for the sequel if Cretton is unavailable.
