Avatar 3 is a highly anticipated science-fiction film directed by James Cameron, and the third installment in the Avatar franchise. The film is a sequel to the highly successful Avatar: The Way of Water, which was released in 2022. The movie is being produced by Cameron along with Jon Landau, with Cameron also serving as the writer, co-producer, and co-editor.

The writing process involved the collaboration of several writers including Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman, and Shane Salerno.

Avatar 3 features an ensemble cast, with many actors reprising their roles from the previous films. This includes Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Jemaine Clement, Britain Dalton, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, Filip Geljo, Dileep Rao, Matt Gerald, and Giovanni Ribisi.

Additionally, Michelle Yeoh, David Thewlis, and Oona Chaplin join the cast as new characters. Cameron has revealed that the possible title for the movie is Avatar: The Seed Bearer.

The making of Avatar 3 has faced several delays due to the need to develop new technology to film performance capture scenes underwater, which had never been done before. Filming began in 2017 in New Zealand, and continued for over three years, wrapping up in late 2020. The movie's theatrical release has been delayed eight times, with the latest delay occurring in July 2020. The current release date for the film is December 20, 2024.

Two more sequels, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, are also in the works and are expected to be released in December 2026 and December 2028, respectively. Avatar 3 is expected to be another groundbreaking movie in terms of its visual effects and storytelling, continuing the success of the Avatar franchise.
